XPress Telecommunications, Jordan’s exclusive iDEN provider of wireless and mobile technology, invited Jordanian media representatives to a media roundtable followed by Iftar. The event was held on October 14th,2006 at the Trattoria restaurant of the Howard Johnson Hotel in Amman.

The Roundtable and Iftar were hosted by the newly appointed CEO of XPress Telecommunications Mr. Marwan Juma along with other members from XPress’s management team. This event was marked as an opportunity for Mr. Juma to meet media representatives as XPress’s new CEO for the very first time, and to introduce them to both himself and his plans.

This gathering was held as part of XPress’s long term strategy to strengthen its ties with the media. Commenting further on the issue Mr. Juma said, “We at XPress Telecommunications value the important role the media plays in the development of the telecommunications sector. It is the media’s efforts that make our services known to the world. I am confident that this event will mark the start of a fruitful, powerful and beneficial long term relationship between us and those parties that voice our aims and needs of the people. Mr. Juma also acknowledged the efforts made by the local Media towards XPress in the past. He also affirmed that XPress Telecommunications is to create more and more opportunities for open interaction between them and the media in the future. According to him, the company’s doors are always open for the media’s questions regardless of whether they were questions pertaining to XPress Telecommunications in particular or the Telecommunications sector in General.

The concept adopted by Dubai-based Techno Park to promote development through a culture of innovation in science and technology has attracted considerable attention at a conference on special economic zones in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The conference titled, `Special Economic Zones - New Trend of Sustainable Economy of Azerbaijan` was held on the sidelines of the 12th International Exhibition on Telecommunications and Information Technologies.

According to Abdullah Al Banna, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Techno Park, who attended the 4-day event said

`Special Economic Zones have gained acceptance rapidly around the world. The lead set by Dubai in successfully establishing and managing free zones has made deep impressions on governments around the world. Techno Park takes the concept further by focusing on cutting-edge science and technology and their application. The incentives and infrastructure facilities we offer attracts investors and institutions from around the world. The Azerbaijan conference provided a good opportunity to showcase Techno Park to the outside world, especially Central Asian countries.`

Some 120 companies from 20 countries attended the event and the conference was addressed by industry leaders and high-ranking government officials.

Earlier, the US-based multinational oilfield supply giant Baker Hughes signed an agreement to invest US$ 40 Million to set up high-tech training centre and operations facility in Techno Park to serve the oil and gas sector.
